The process of Yorkshire Terrier training does not have to be difficult at all, but there are a few things that you are going to want to be aware of. For one, you always need to make sure that you have the patience that is going to be required here. Remember that you are dealing with a puppy, and so just like a child, they are most likely going to find it hard to concentrate and act as though they are not interested.

You are going to want to be aware of the issue of Yorkshire Terrier training before getting a Yorkie for yourself however. Training is very important while your dog is still a puppy so that they can learn proper manners and behavior training and grow up to be a polite and obedient dog. You can certainly train a dog once they are a fully grown but it is always best to start as early on as you can because you are then more likely to have the best results you possibly can.

There are basically two different dog training styles that you can choose to use including leash obedience training and reward training. Basically the first, leash training, is the harder style of training. You use the leash to show the dog what you want them to do and once the dog displays that it knows the command the leash is used to correct the dog for not obeying.

The reward style of training is much easier and more positive, and when the dog listens to you and makes progress you show him that he is doing well by giving him a reward. This is usually a dog treat, but you have other options as well. Even if you just pat him on the head this is a sign of affection and considered as a reward to the dog.

Both of these training styles can be used with varying degrees of source, and generally with a leash based obedience training system the dog is first taught a behavior and then once the dog shows that he understands the command you can progress and the leash is used to correct the dog at any point where he is not obeying. Remember that in order for the dog to be fully trained the dog should be trained first to trust the handler and allow them to place them in a position that they do not necessarily want to assume.

There are a few things in particular that you want to remember when it comes to Yorkshire Terrier training. For one, before you ever give a word command to your dog you should call them by their name in order to get their attention.

This is because most Yorkies have very short memories and so if you miss a lesson then they are liable to forget everything they have already been taught.

Also keep in mind that when you are teaching your dog the most basic commands, such as how to sit, you want to always keep your hand held up high over its head with a reward in it. This lets them see that they are going to be rewarded if they obey you and do what you are asking of them. Never allow the dog to jump up and grab the reward without obeying you first, because they will not learn this way.
